Hallo allemaal, ik ben Howard Dors en ik zamel geld in voor het verzenden van een grote hoeveelheid door bedrijven en scholen geschonken spullen aan een struggelende school in Suriname waar bijzonder onderwijs wordt verleend op basisschool- en voortgezetonderwijsniveau. (BSO en VSO). De school heet “Mon Tresor” en is gevestigd in het District Commewijne te Suriname. De school geeft onderwijs aan kinderen uit dit kansarme gebied die bovenop de erbarmelijke omstandigheden waarin zij vaak al leven ook nog eens bijzonder onderwijs nodig hebben vanwege een leerbeperking. In Suriname loopt het zonder ingrijpen zeer slecht af met dit soort kinderen (zie de uiteenzetting in het onderste gedeelte van deze tekst.)

 

Vandaar dat ik de school help door:

 

De school is opgezet door Stichting RHIZA Suriname. Een stichting die is opgericht in Suriname door mevrouw Jenny Graanoogst.

 

Momenteel heb ik 12 geschonken fietsen in te pakken en te verschepen.

Plus nog geschonken Digischoolborden, schoolborden, lesmateriaal, stoelen, tafels etc.

En ongeveer 5 kuub aan verscheidene andere voor de school, de leerlingen, de leerkrachten en de organisatie benodigde spullen.

Uiteenzetting / oorsprong van dit project:

 

Mw. Graanoogst constateerde enige jaren geleden tijdens haar deelname aan een vrijwilligers project voor (basis)scholen in Suriname dat slecht presterende kinderen op de basisschool in Suriname over gaan naar de volgende klas puur gebaseerd op het feit dat ze een jaartje ouder zijn geworden. Hiervan is dus ook sprake wanneer zij niet goed kunnen leren of zeer onvoldoende scoren. Deze kinderen verlaten vaak zeer ondergekwalificeerd en voortijdig de basisschool en stromen dan ook niet door naar het voortgezet onderwijs met alle gevolgen van dien. Al op zeer jonge leeftijd belanden zij dan in een diep dal dat leidt to criminaliteit, nog meer armoede dan reeds in hun thuissituatie het geval is, prostitutie, psychische problemen of ander leed.

 

Mw. Graanoogst vond dat daar per direct een eind aan moest komen! Dat is dan ook de reden geweest voor haar om Stichting RHIZA SURINAME in het leven te roepen.

 

Gesteund door een eenmalige subsidie van het KANS-fonds en door het inleggen van eigen gelden en een aantal andere giften heeft Mw. Graanoogst met stichting RHIZA Suriname inmiddels een stuk grond bouwklaar kunnen laten maken in het kansarme district Commewijne. (Een gebied met een zeer hoog percentage aan moeizaam lerende kinderen die school vroegtijdig verlaten.) Op dat stuk grond heeft de stichting een kleine basisschool gebouwd genaamd “BSO Mon Tresor” waar men inmiddels is begonnen met het geven van speciaal basisonderwijs (en waar de Stichting RHIZA sinds kort ook is begonnen aan opleidingen op voortgezetonderwijs niveau). Tevens is het de bedoeling om het gebied op korte termijn te verrijken met een expertise centrum en andere praktijkgerichte faciliteiten die zeer nodig zijn. Ook heeft de school meer leerkrachten nodig (leerkrachten worden momenteel geleverd door het ministerie van OCW in Suriname) en diverse pedagogische specialisten voor de optimalisering van opleiding en opvang van de kinderen. Voorafgaand aan het speciaal basisonderwijs op de BSO Mon Tresor werd namelijk reeds bij alle (potentiële) leerlingen hun leerprogressie, achtergrond en andere eigenschappen onderzocht. Dit werd gedaan door specialisten die Stichting RHIZA Suriname hiervoor heeft benaderd en ingezet. De stichting werd door de professionals geadviseerd om op die manier de leersnelheid en het opleidingsniveau maar in het bijzonder ook de toegepaste educatiemethode per kind te optimaliseren. Met een dergelijk vooronderzoek wordt het gegeven onderwijs specifiek op het kind zelf en op zijn of haar niveau, snelheid, gesteldheid of leefomstandigheden afgestemd, zodat de opleiding van het kind uiteindelijk ook daadwerkelijk mag leiden tot een succesvol resultaat.

 

Een resultaat waarbij een kansarm kind in een ontwikkelingsland als Suriname toch een degelijke overlevingskans wordt geboden terwijl de samenleving hen al lang heeft afgeschreven.

Hello everyone; I’m Howard Dors. I’m raising money to send a large amount of stuff donated by companies and schools to a struggling school in Suriname where special education is provided at primary and secondary education levels. (BSO and VSO). The school is called “Mon Tresor” and is located in the District Commewijne in Suriname. The school provides education to children from this underprivileged area who, in addition to the appalling conditions they often already live in, also need special education because they have a learning disability. In Suriname, without intervention, it will end badly with these kinds of children (see the explanation in the lower part of this text.)

 

That is why I help the school by:

 

The school was set up by the RHIZA Suriname Foundation. A foundation established in Suriname by Mrs. Jenny Graanoogst.

 

Currently, I have 12 donated bicycles to pack and ship.

Plus donated Digischoolboards, blackboards, teaching materials, chairs, tables etc.

And about five cubic meters of various other items needed for school, students, teachers and organization.

Explanation/origin of this project:

 

Ms. Graanoogst discovered some years ago during her participation in a volunteer project for (primary) schools in Suriname that poorly performing children at primary schools in Suriname move on to the next class purely based on the fact that they have become a year older. This also applies if they cannot learn well or score very insufficiently. These children often leave primary school very underqualified and prematurely and therefore do not move on to secondary education, with all the consequences that this entails. At a very young age, they end up in a deep valley that leads to crime, even more poverty than is already the case in their home situation, prostitution, psychological problems and/or other sufferings.

 

Mrs. Graanoogst thought that this had to be stopped immediately! That was the reason for her to set up the RHIZA SURINAME Foundation.

 

Supported by a one-off subsidy from the KANS fund and by contributing her own funds and several other gifts, Mrs. Graanoogst and the RHIZA Suriname Foundation have now been able to have a piece of land prepared for construction in the underprivileged district of Commewijne. (An area with a very high percentage of children with difficulty learning who leave school as described above.) On that plot of land, a small primary school called “BSO Mon Tresor” has been built where special primary education has been started (and where the RHIZA Foundation has also recently started teaching at the secondary education level). The foundation also intends to enrich the area on the piece of cleared land in the short term with an expertise center and other practical facilities that are very necessary. The school also needs more teachers (currently provided by the Ministry of Education in Suriname) and various pedagogical specialists to optimize the education and care of the children. Prior to the special primary education at the BSO Mon Tresor, all potential pupils were examined on their learning progress, background and other characteristics. This examination was done by specialists whom the RHIZA Suriname Foundation has approached and deployed. These specialists concluded that only through this way the speed of education and the level of education, but in particular also the applied education method per child, could be optimized. Through this method, the pupils can be explicitly helped on their individual level, speed, condition or living conditions. The child’s education may then ultimately lead to a successful result.

 

A result in which a disadvantaged child in a poor developing country is still offered a decent chance of survival in a society that wrote them off long ago.
